I have never owned/used a retractable outdoor clothesline so I didn’t really know what to expect. This one was easy to install and is serving our needs. We live in the city with a small backyard and just needed a place for the kids to throw their towels/bathing suits after coming back from the pool or camp. I love that it retracts and is very unobtrusive (it’s installed on a white wood frame and when not in use folds flat against the side of the house). My only complaint (and this may come from my inexperience with clotheslines) is that the line is too loose - you have to loop it around a hook to get it tight and I find that hard to do. Otherwise the line sags quite a bit. It’s performing its function and the kids love the novelty of it, so we’re happy.

This is an easy install but it is important to measure well. If the clothesline is in a place where it does not fully extend it is difficult to get it to stay taut when hanging heavier items. The sagging can be taken care of by wrapping the line around the post it is attached to but it is not convenient. I would have like it to lock into place when extended to the desired length, the little hook under the housing doesn’t really work. All in all just an okay item.
