5 Tips for Sending Out Christmas Cards


It’s that time of year again! Sending out holiday greeting cards is a time honored tradition that is still holding on, even with the decline in using “snail mail.” Give your family and friends something to look forward to when they retrieve their mail by sending them warm greetings this winter! Below are some quick tips and tricks to keep in mind this holiday season.

1. Order Christmas Cards Early

Order custom Christmas cards before Thanksgiving in order to receive them in time to send them to family and friends. Some online services allow you to upload your database of addresses and they will send the cards out for you, but this negates some of the personal touches that come from sending out Christmas cards in the first place.

2. Address and Stamp Christmas Cards over Thanksgiving Weekend

Do you have your holiday greeting cards on hand? Now is the perfect time to prepare them for mailing! Sit down with your children and spouse to sign the cards and address the envelopes. With many hands working together, the task will go much faster.  

3. Add a Personal Message or Signature

Add a personal touch to your correspondence simply by signing your name by hand! You’d be amazed how this one act can add a personal touch to any greeting card. If you have extra time and energy, a short greeting or message makes a world of difference. You don’t need to write a paragraph, a short line right above your names will suffice. 4. Send Christmas Cards out 1 Week After Thanksgiving.

Send out Christmas cards to family and friends 2-3 weeks before Christmas day. You should always send out Christmas cards during the first full week of December to avoid sending your cards out too early or too late.

5. Include Your Return Address on Cards

Adding a return address to the envelope is common practice, but you should go the extra mile and add your return address to the back of the greeting card. Most people throw out the envelopes and display the card, and then realize several days later they forgot to write down your address! Adding your address to the back of the card eliminates any awkwardness for your friends or family since they don’t have to call you for your address.
